Billiat: Chiefs Fans Don’t Scare Us

Kaizer Chiefs forward Khama Billiat says their fans don’t scare them after losing all three games since the return of supporters in the DStv Premiership this season.

The league played behind closed doors since March 2020 due to the Covid-19 lockdown and since the re-opening of stadiums, they lost to SuperSport United 1-0, which saw Stuart Baxter sacked and since Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard took over, they’ve lost 1-0 to Stellenbosch FC and 2-1 to Golden Arrows.

But Billiat says the results are not because of the pressure that comes with playing in front of the demanding fans of one of the most supported clubs in Africa.

“Our supporters don’t scare us, our supporters support us to do better, so we must not be scared of playing in front of them. We missed them,” he told the club’s website.

“It’s something we need to consider, if there is something we need to work on mentally to be around our supporters, knowing very well that they are coming to support us, coming to enjoy good moments and coming to see us grind out the results. They’ve very important to have back in the stadium. We really appreciate them coming back, they always give us that extra boost,” says Billiat.

Billiat admitted ahead of the Cape Town City that it’s a game they simply cannot lose as they look to finish in second-place behind Mamelodi Sundowns and qualify for the CAF Champions League.

“We can’t lose four games in a row. We’re a big team, a big brand, with big numbers of supporters. We should know going into this game that it’s very important, it’s bigger than what we think it is. It’s important we finish very strong to get a spot in the Champions League,” he added.

Chiefs could go three points behind seond-placed Royal AM with three points against the Citizens in the game that kicks off at 15h00 at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
