Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has announced his 23-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
South Africa will take Benin at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on 18 November 2023 and then travel to Huye to face Rwanda on Tuesday 21 November 2023.
Broos’ men are currently unbeaten in 11 successive games, winning six and drawing five, with the run stretching back to June 2022 when they lost in Morocco.
With Benin ranked in 93rd position and Rwanda 140th in the latest FIFA rankings, and 40th-placed Nigeria, as well as 125th Zimbabwe and 153rd Lesotho also in the Bafana’s World Cup qualifying group, Broos and his players need to get two positive results from these first two matches in Group C.
The top-ranked team from each of the nine CAF qualifying groups will qualify directly for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Broos called up some new faces, including uncapped Bradley Cross and Oswin Appollis, as well as Jayden Adams, who has featured for Bafana in the COSAFA Cup.
