Broos Suggests Double Standards Over His Opinions

Hugo Broos has responded to the public backlash he received after claiming during the previous international that the level in the Premier Soccer League is not good enough.

The Belgian tactician has returned to South Africa after returning to his native Belgium during a recent break.

On Thursday, he announced his 23-man squad to face Sierre Leone and Botswana in two friendlies later this month and also discussed a wide range of topics.

On of the talking points came from the 70-year-old suggesting there are double standards over his opinion in comparison to locals.

“I was very surprised that people blamed for disrespecting the nation,” he said on SABC1.

“I just told what I felt at that moment and ok, I said what I said. I know now that in future I will think twice before I say things like that.

“I see that it’s not really accepted if a foreigner says some things because afterwards I read articles in the press of South Africans who said exactly the same thing as I said and there was no reaction.

“Ok, I know where my place is not and I will do it a little bit differently than before.”

Bafana Bafana will face Sierre Leone on  24 September before they will welcome Botswana three days later.
