Cape Town City look set to face Kaizer Chiefs for their postponed DStv Premiership clash under protest on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium.
City boss John Comitis made it clear that they would not honour the fixture that could potentially prove null and void due to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) challenging the arbitration ruling that awarded Amakhosi replays of the Golden Arrows and City fixtures that were initially declared walkover results as Chiefs failed to honour the fixtures during their Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena Village.
However, the Citizens were planning a high court interdict to prevent the game from being played before there was a final decision on the long protracted legal saga between the league and Chiefs.
The Soweto giants have since lost their replay against Golden Arrows 2-1 on Wednesday and it appears from Eric Tinkler’s words they will be facing Chiefs this weekend.

“Well, we are here until Saturday so we’ll see,” the Citizens boss who has to lead his side to an unbeaten run in the league in 2022 said to SuperSport TV after the game.
In the post-match press conference, he stated that they are relishing the opportunity or perhaps pipping Royal AM to second place and a CAF Champions League qualification spot.
“I think that battle would have been better if we collected the three points [against Sundowns] because then the gap would have been two [points],” Tinkler said.
“Obviously there’s the next game that comes up, we had the two games in hand and we could potentially close that gap with a win and then potentially go past them and go one ahead.
“But our target at the beginning of the season was to finish in the top-four, the bonus will be to finish second. Our boys are gonna give everything they can to achieve that, but obviously, right now it doesn’t really lay in our hands, we needed to win [against Sundowns] in order to achieve that.
“Now we’re hoping for others to get a result against Royal AM, but the confidence is very high, it’s not that they play a great brand of football if you watch them, possession stats, they always worse than the opposition.
“Chances created they always worse than the opposition, yet they are managing to win football matches, so hopefully their ‘luck’ can change a bit.”
