Carnell Wins First Trophy In US

South African tactician Bradley Carnell has won his first piece of silverware in the US with Philadelphia Union after guiding them to the 2025 Supporters’ Shield.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana left-back was appointed the new head coach of Philadelphia, succeeding Jim Curtin back in December 2024.

Philadelphia narrowly saw off New York City 1-0 in the final match of the season courtesy of Mikael Uhre’s 41st minute strike. This also meant that they finished on 66 points, four ahead of second-placed Cincinnati after 33 matches.

Former Stellenbosch FC defender Olwethu Makhanya, 21, was in the starting line-up for Carnell’s troops and has made huge strides since joining Philadelphia back in 2023 after initially turning out for the club’s reserves.
