Kaizer Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns to the Home of Legends Cup with a 5-4 win on penalties in sudden death after the match finished goalless.
Amakhosi beat Golden Arrows 2-0 in the morning kickoff, while Sundowns beat Chippa United on penalties after a 1-1 draw to set up the final in Gqeberha on Saturday evening.
While Sundowns fielded an experimental squad, with over 10 players on international duty during the break, Chiefs had more of their first-choice players available.
But it was Sibongeseni Mthethwa, who has been on the periphery of the Amakhosi line-up this season who stood out, in the hard-fought 90 minutes that ended without a goal.
The Soweto giants went on to win the cup in the Eastern Cape in sudden death, with a 5-4 scoreline to lift the inaugural cup competition and secure R1.5-million in prize money.
