Chiefs Reject Venezuela International

Kaizer Chiefs have turned down the chance to sign Venezuela international Edson Castillo after his exit from Caracas.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder boasts a wealth of experience of over 200 professional appearances in the Venezuelan top-flight, Mexico, and a brief spell in Azerbaijan and was open to the idea of moving to South Africa.

iDiski Times has it on good authority that the players’ representatives had proposed the Castillo to the club after it emerged they were in the market for a new number six.

However, the club’s technical team decided against making a move for the six-time capped senior international stating that he would not improve their current options already within the Amakhosi first-team.

He did represent his country at the 2021 Copa America, where he scored and assisted in a 2-2 draw with Ecuador in the group stages.

Chiefs also passed on the chance to sign Kamohelo Mokotjo, who has since joined Sekhukhune United, as head coach Arthur Zwane reiterates they have no room for error in the market as they look to rebuild the squad to challenge for silverware on a consistent basis again.
