Kaizer Chiefs secured a 3-2 win over Cape Town Spurs in their DStv Premiership match played behind closed doors at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.
After the 1-0 Carling Knockout exit at the hands of AmaZulu, Chiefs fans aimed projectiles at head coach Molefi Ntseki which represented his last game for the club.
As a result, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee slapped a hefty fine on Amakhosi and the game against Spurs was ordered to be without supporters.
It seemingly worked in the favour of the home side as Cavin Johnson secured his first win since taking over as interim head coach after Ntseki’s exit.
It took just 15 minutes to open the scoring with Edson Castillo enjoying a free header inside the area which spurned the game into an end-to-end affair.
However, it took ten minutes for Chiefs to get their second as Ranga Chaviviro, who nearly opened the scoring with a cracking effort from range netted a tap-in to open his account for the club.
The relief in his celebration was clear to see as the boyhood Chiefs fan found the net in his ninth appearance for the club since his off-season arrival from Marumo Gallants.
But the home side failed to take advantage of their chances, which saw Luvuyo Phewa pull one back on the brink of half-time which opened the game up in the second half.
And Spurs nearly made The Glamour Boys pay for the lack of cutting edge as 15 minutes before time Bradley Ralani beat Itumeleng Khune, but his effort smashed off the crossbar, denying them the equaliser.
Christain Saile then put the final nail in the coffin with a third in the 82nd minute to end any hope of an Urban Warriors comeback, but 17-year-old Luke Baartman netted a 90th-minute consultation for his first-ever goal in professional football.
It compounded Spurs to their ninth defeat in 10 league games since winning promotion to the top-flight.
The win for Chiefs moved them up to seventh place with 14 points in 11 games, while Pirates dropped down to 10th ahead of the Soweto Derby at the Calabash this weekend.
