Kaizer Chiefs succumbed to their second preseason defeat going down to a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of FC Utrecht at Sportpark Driel on Friday afternoon.
Nasreddine Nabi rang just one change to his squad after losing their first tie with Glody Lilepo replacing Mfundo Vilakazi upfront.
Chiefs fell behind after the defence failed to clear their lines as Utrecht marksman Siebe Horemans capitalized with an easy tap at the far post to make it 1-0.
Amakhosi came close to the equalizer shortly after but Lilepo’s freekick was deflected out for a corner.
Mduduzi Shabalala then tried his luck from inside the box in the 35th minute but saw his effort saved.
Utrecht doubled their lead in the 48th minute with Adrian Blake slotting from close range with Brandon Petersen wrong-footed.
It was 3-0 in the 55th minute through Blake for his second of the afternoon into an open net which then saw Silva hauled off with Naledi Hlongwane getting a run in attack.
Aden McCarthy retained his place in the Chiefs defence as Zitha Kwinika, Samkelo Zwane, Pule Mmodi, Bruce Bvuma, Reeve Frosler, Ethan Chislett, Gaston Sirino, Dillan Solomons, George Matlou all got runs but did not change the match result.
In the 83rd minute, after a splitting pass from Matisse Didden, Miliano Jonathans made it 4-0 to secure the huge victory as it’s back to the drawing board for Nabi’s men.
