Comitis Explains Manyama Appointment

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has explained why the club has recruited former captain Lebogang Manyama into their technical team.

City announced Manyama as a second assistant to Eric Tinkler last week, and the recently retired star has already begun his new role at the club.

Comitis said it was something the club was always planning to do, and in the future, more former players are likely to be given opportunities, especially within the youth ranks.

“I think it was only a matter of time,” Comitis told iDiski Times.

“And there’ll be a few more down the road as we go, and we grow the youth academy, bringing some of the ex-players back as coaches, that is part of the plan.

“And when you see the response we’ve got on Lebo Manyama. Coach Eric is also very excited to have him next to him. And you know, the team is just strengthening, and getting stronger and stronger like that.

Comitis is confident that Manyama will be a big benefit to Tinkler’s technical team.

“Once you understand what is right and wrong on the pitch and where you should be in moments of the game – this game is made up of moments, and those moments that define victories – and he’s a player that understands these moments and where players should be, and he can help us on that side, and also connect the players closer to the coach because the coach always stands his ground.

“And sometimes we need somebody to make it easier for players to express themselves. I think all those things will add value to the club, and the results will come with that.”
