CT City Defeat Sundowns, Chiefs Remains In Touching Distance

Western Cape teams dominated Tshwane teams and kept the DDC League title race wide open, while Kaizer Chiefs secured a crucial three points away from home.

Cape Town City battled Mamelodi Sundowns at Malta Sports Ground on a hot morning. Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout scored a brace and Dhakier Lee was also on the scoresheet. Sundowns scored two late goals, but that wasn’t enough to secure points for them, and they remained in third place. 

In the Winelands, league leaders Stellenbosch FC beat SuperSport United with Cheswyn Philander opening the scoring for Stellies inside the 34th minute before Faiz Abrahams doubled the lead in the second half. Kyle Bailey made it 3-0, securing three points for Stellies. 

Chiefs’ secured big three points away from home beating Sekhukhune United. Neo Bohloko was on the scoresheet for Amakhosi. The Ephefeni Glamour Boys remained two points behind Stellies with a game in hand which could be crucial.

Pirates moved to fifth place after a second-half goal from Neo Mokoena was enough to seal the three points for the Buccaneers. The Sea Robbers remained in fifth place 10 points behind league leaders Stellenbosch FC.
