Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo admits that he had to pray to his ancestors in order for his former side to prevail past Mamelodi Sundowns this past weekend.
The Glamour Boys pulled off a shock victory over the ever-dominant Tshwane outfit to advance to the final of the Nedbank Cup where they will take on fierce rivals Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban next month.

After having already beaten Chiefs three times this season, a 4-0 thrashing in the Carling Knockout Cup followed by 2-1 and 1-0 wins in the Betway Premiership, Sundowns were expected to once again get the better side of Chiefs after taking a 1-0 lead through a thumping freekick from Teboho Mokoena.
Nasreddine Nabi’s charges however came out a totally different side in the second period levelling matters through Wandile Duba before Ashley du Preez’s much-debated goal in the 89th minute.
Speaking to Andile Ncube on Soccerzone, ’16V’ could not hide his excitement as he laughed uncontrollably after witnessing what had transpired at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday night.
“It’s very nice in Mzansi. It’s very nice in Mzansi (laughs), you see what I saw yesterday [Sunday], I had a great weekend,” Doc said on Soccerzone.
“I was in Tsolo for a kiddies tournament, Mxolisi Foundation, and when I came back, I sat down and watched the first goal of Sundowns, and I was like ‘Yoh’! What is Teboho doing?
“I went on the other side of the room to pray, and I called on the ancestors and said, ‘you can’t do this thing [making us lose]’.”
Amakhosi have a chance to claim silverware for the first time in almost a decade with a trophy they last won in 2012/13 under the tutelage of Swedish coach Stewart Baxter.
