Cape Town City, Stellenbosch and AmaZulu FC managed to get maximum points in their opening games, while Valhalla United held Mamelodi Sundowns to a surprise draw at the Bayhil Premier Cup.
The second day of the tournemant ended with excitement as Mamelodi Sundowns came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against a gritty Valhalla United.
Despite a strong performance from the young Brazilians, they were stunned by the local club, who put in a valiant performance against their loftier opponents, with Aden Solomons scoring in the first half. Even though Simphiwe Mdlondlo equalised with just over ten minutes to go, Valhalla were able to hold out for the draw.
However, it was overall a good day for the professional clubs.
In an early result, Stellenbosch FC picked up a comfortable 3-0 victory over Eagles Performance Academy, while AmaZulu were solid as they defeated SAFA Cape Town Academy 2-0.
Cape Town City, who have included Emile Witbooi, Aviwe Ndevu and Dhaakir Lee in their squad, also started with a win, beating Mafikeng Football Academy 1-0.
Defending champions Cape Town Spurs won a hard-fought battle against FC Porto 1-0, while the University of Pretoria was held to a 1-1 draw by Young Bafana.
It was a solid start for the visiting Namibian teams, as Riverheights Academy drew 1-1 with Maties FC, while CBS Talents, coached by former Platinum Stars striker Henrico Botes, drew 1-1 with Stanturf United. CBS were founded by Namibian men’s senior coach Collin Benjamin, who was watching on in Cape Town.
