Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies remain at the top of the Hollywoodbets Super League log after their last gasp 3-2 win over Copperbelt Ladies at the Lucas Moripe Stadium over the weekend.
The Limpopo side opened the scoring through Thandi Rameri which was quickly cancelled out by Miche Minnies for her 10th goal of the season. Tshibogo Madihlaba regained the lead for Copperbelt, however Karabo Makhurubetshi levelled matters once again. With the match looking likely for a stalemate, Lelona Daweti grabbed the winner for the defending champions in injury time, as the Queens of the Continent moved to 53 points in 20 matches while Copperbelt remained in 12th place with 17 points from 19 games.
In the other weekend’s fixture, University of Western Cape (UWC) were 2-0 winners over Lindelani Ladies away at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium. Sibulele Holweni’s second half strike and an own goal from the home side propelled the Blues staying in second spot with 44 points, though they have played two games less than Sundowns. Meanwhile, the rookies remain second from bottom with four points in 19 outings.
The two top sides have engagements outside the country later this month, with Sundowns travelling for the Kansas Cup in the US and UWC heading to Malawi for the CAF COSAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
