Drama-Filled Alger/Downs Clash Ends In Stalemate

MC Alger and Mamelodi Sundowns played to an entertaining 0-0 draw in their CAF Champions League encounter at the Ali la Pointe Stadium in Douera on Friday night.

Sundowns had the first sniff at goal in the 25th minute after Marcelo Allende swung in a cross from the right flank to find Tashreeq Matthews whose effort went over the bar.

In the 42nd minute, Zinedine Ferhat missed a clear-cut chance to give Alger the lead after going through on goal, but his looping effort also sailed over the crossbar.

Ronwen Williams was forced into a save from a corner in the 81st minute to keep his side in the match.

In the 86th minute, Algers thought they had pulled off a smash and grab after finding the back of the net only for the assistant referee to rightfully raise his flag.

In the end, both sides were unable to be separated as they settled for a share of the spoils as Masandawana maintained their top spot with four points while Alger stayed in third with a single point.
