Ex-Pirates Star & New Bucs Signing Win Monthly Awards

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Linda ‘Figo’ Mntambo was named Player of the Month February/March, while his coach Lehlohonolo Seema bagged the Coach of the Month award and Thabiso Lebitso’s stunner in the Soweto Derby was named Goal of the Month.

Babina Noko had a perfect run in February/March, winning all of their five league games, a 3-1 vs Richards Bay, a 1-0 against Golden Arrows, a 1-0 over Royal AM, a 4-1 hammering of Moroka Swallows and a 2-1 over Orlando Pirates.

As a consequence, Semma was named Coach of the Month for overseeing this run which saw Sekhukhune climb into fourth spot.

“Sekhukhune United have been rewarded for a perfect run as coach Lehlohonolo Seema and Linda Mntambo picked up the DStv Premiership monthly awards for player and coach in February/March 2024,” the PSL stated.

Seema, who wins his first DStv Premiership Coach of the Month award has seen Sekhukhune impressively continue to climb up the log standings over the past two months. Having only joined Sekhukhune in November, he has overseen a remarkable February/March period with his side winning five out of five matches, scoring 11 goals and only conceding thrice. He received huge praise from the judging panel in the way he has got Babina Noko to play an exciting, free flowing style of football as they beat Richards Bay, Golden Arrows, Royal AM, Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates.”

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune captain Mntambo was named Player of the Month after contributing with three goals and two assists to his side’s brilliant run.

“DStv Premiership Player of the Month winner, Mntambo, who has missed most of the season owing to injuries, marked his return to action with a consistent run of influential performances by scoring three goals and providing two assists, in crucial victories for his side, earning his first monthly individual award in the league.

“This is the first time in the history of the awards that a coach or player from Sekhukhune United win an award.”

Finally, Lebitso walked away with the Goal of the Month award for his stunning strike in the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs.

“Orlando Pirates new right-back, Thabiso Lebitso, welcomed himself to the Bucs’ faithful with stunningly taken goal from outside the 18-yard box in his side’s 3-2 win over rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby and saw his goal voted the DStv Premiership Goal of the Month for February/March. Teboho Mokoena came very close to getting the award for his screamer against SuperSport United last month.

“For their recognition, all the winning coaches and players will each receive a trophy and R7, 000 courtesy of league sponsors, DStv.”
