Benni McCarthy and his Kenyan side suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat to Gambia in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Moi International Sports Centre on Friday afternoon.
Despite the early onslaught from the Harambee Stars, it was Gambia who drew first blood through Sheriff Sinyan with a powering header in the 12th minute to make it 1-0.

The Scorpions made it 2-0 in the 25th minute through Yankuba Minteh who outpaced the Kenyan defence to slot home.
The floodgates opened as Gambia struck for the third time from Musa Barrow’s fine strike in the 38th minute.
Ogam Rabok scored a consolation in the 81st minute as the tie ended 3-1.
Kenya’s defeat means they have now lost three matches after picking up a single win with three draws.
Both sides are out of the running to qualify for next year’s global showpiece in the USA as the Harambee Stars are in fifth place on six points and the Scorpions in fourth spot on seven points.
Gabon and Ivory Coast are in position one and two with 18 and 16 points, respectively.
