Hlungwani Questions Referee’s Decision To Allow Nigeria Goal

Referee Pierre Atcho’s decision to allow Nigeria’s goal to stand should not have been allowed, according to former PSL official Victor Hlungwani.

Bafana Bafana locked horns with the Super Eagles in a high stakes 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Free State Stadium last week Tuesday with the tie ending 1-1 as the home team extended their lead at the top of Group C to sit on 17 points.

The biggest talking point of the match was Cyriel Dessers’ equalizer in the 44th minute with replay showing the towering Fulham defender was aided by his hand in scoring Nigeria’s goal.

“Ball is scored with a hand. You can see the ball touches the hand. From the head to the hand,” “The Principal” said on Soccerzone.

“The law says you can’t score with the hand. The law says it is an offence, even if it is accidental.

“So, incorrect decision. This goal was not supposed to have been allowed by the referee Pierre Atcho from Gambia.”
