How Khune Deals With Lack Of Game-time Revealed

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane has discussed how legendary goalkeeper Itumeleng has been dealing with his lack of game-time this season.

Khune, 34, extended his contract for another two years ahead of the current season and coach Stuart Baxter indicated he could be his first choice.

However, the club legend has only started one game since and only made the bench twice in the league all season.

Zwane, though, insisted that Khune has fallen victim to the strong competition among the club’s keepers.

“Khune is a professional and I like it because he is focused,” Zwane said when asked by iDiski Times journalist, David Kappel about Khune.

“Look, like any other player, there is no player who wouldn’t like to play every game. He really wants to play and he is pushing himself at training, it’s just a matter of selection.

“Brandon [Petersen] has been doing well, Bruce [Bvuma] has been doing well, and [Daniel] Akpeyi as well and there is that competition. [But] should an opportunity arise again, surely he will get his fair share.

“We still believe in him and know he’s got that quality.“

Zwane also spoke about Khune’s importance to the dressing room, being one of the senior figures in the team.

“He has the experience and [him] being in the dressing room always motivates the other players. He’s always part and parcel of the team, whether he is playing or not,” he added.

“He is a positive person and he’s looking forward to his turn. Should that time come any time soon, he will be ready to compete because he is a true professional, he is a 24-hour professional.”
