How Much Money Sundowns Earned After Opening Win

Mamelodi Sundowns have already secured over R200 million after their win against Ulsan HD on Wednesday morning.

Masandawana beat Ulsan HD 1-0 thanks to a goal by Iqraam Rayners to move to the top of Group F after Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense played out a goalless draw earlier.

As a consequence, Sundowns have earned R36 million for their first win in the group stages, while a draw would’ve earned them R18 million.

In addition, Sundowns and the other three African teams will receive a whopping R174 million in participation fees, meaning overall the Betway Premiership champions have already secured R210 million.

Prize money breakdown per stage in Rand:

  • Round of 16: + R137m ($7.5 million)
  • Quarter-final: + R239m ($13.125 million)
  • Semi-final: + R383m ($21 million)
  • Finalist: + R547m ($30 million)
  • Winner: + R729m ($40 million)

Note: All the prize money is accumulative, so that the winners could earn up to R2.28 billion ($125 million).
