Hunt Gives Latest Update On Pursuit Of Chiefs’ Morris

Durban City head coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed the club was interested in Kaizer Chiefs striker Tashreeq Morris, explaining how the move to the club fell through.

iDiski Times reported two weeks ago that the Durban-based club was looking to land the signature of the centre-forward to strengthen its attacking department.

Hunt had requested to reunite with the player on loan with the possibility for a permanent transfer when the loan comes to an end at the conclusion of this season.

The two previously worked together at SuperSport United before Morris joined the Phefeni Glamour Boys in January of this year.

Hunt says Durban City’s potential deal with Morris failed after Chiefs “stalled” the move. As a result, The Citizens chose to sign Letsie Koapeng, who recently joined on a two-year deal from Orbit College.

“Yes, there was an interest, it’s just that they [Chiefs] stalled the deal,” said Hunt during the press conference after City’s 2-0 win over Siwelele on Tuesday evening at Chatsworth Stadium.

“I took Letsie because he was available. We had to make a decision, that is my call. I can take Morris tomorrow, but obviously now [I can’t] because the budget is gone.”

Morris remains at Naturena with his contract at Chiefs expiring in June 2027. He has yet to feature for the club in six matches they have played in the Betway Premiership so far.
