SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt provided one of his short-lipped interviews after his side drew 1-1 with Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday, giving short answers like during his time at Kaizer Chiefs.
Hunt’s side dropped points, allowing Orlando Pirates to close the gap to two points after both sides have played 20 matches.
SuperSport scored first via a perfect header by Bradley Grobler in the first half, which was the 99th goal of his club areer in all competitions.
SuperSport completely dominated the first half in tough conditions at Chatsworth Stadium and should have increased the score line, but they didn’t, allowing Royal AM to fight back to salvage a point and leave coach John Maduka undefeated since he re-assumed his role recently.
However, conditions at Chatsworth Stadium were bad, with the surface wet and the ball not rolling perfectly to the intended person.
With the DStv Premiership title all but wrapped up by Mamelodi Sundowns, who are on top of the table with 55 points after 21 matches played, SuperSport and Pirates are among the teams fighting for second place, which qualifies for the CAF Champions League.
When Hunt was asked by iDiski Times if he is now looking over his shoulders as Pirates are climbing up after they beat Maritzburg United on Friday, Hunt sarcastically asked.
“Are they?” he said. “That’s fine.”
But he then elaborated: “It was disappointing [to draw], and big decisions [from referee] we never got.
“Football, in this type of conditions, is made on big decisions, and easy decisions to be made. Yes, I’m feeling a bit aggrieved but it is not the first time this has happened to us.”
Hunt was asked when he talked about decisions, does he mean referee’s decisions?
“Yeah,” he said.
“You can’t be reckless in this weather. If you are reckless in this weather, you are going to get red carded. And that’s what should happen.
“There were too many reckless tackles which affected the game. We had two penalty shouts, those were two penalties.”
The game at Chatsworth Stadium saw Thulani Hlatshwayo make his return to the side, after picking up an injury against Marumo Gallants when the season resumed in December.
Hlatshwayo, who has formed a good partnership with Thatayaone Dithlokwe at the back, had missed the last seven matches since then.
“Fantastic. He was fantastic today, man of the match. Fantastic,” Hunt said about the defender, who lifted the league title, MTN8 and Telkom Knockout Cup together during their time at Bidvest Wits.
The result, which came a week after Hunt’s side embarrassingly crashed out to Dondol Stars in the first hurdle of the Nedbank Cup, extended SuperSport’s recent run of picking up just one win in their last seven games.
