SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt says they got their rewards in beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the Tshwane derby at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Friday night.
Goals by Thapelo Maseko in the ninth minute and a second from Bradley Grobler in the added minute in the first half, were enough to Hunt’s side beat Sundowns 2-1 for the first time since April 2019 in the league.
Sundowns, who were disjointed in the game, pulled one back in deep referee’s optional time when Abubeker Nasir scored what was virtually the last kick of the match.
Hunt was excited by the application of his side to nullify star-studded Sundowns.
“We haven’t got rewards this season and sadly nobody really cares,” said Hunt to SuperSport TV after the game.
“But I thought we got our rewards because we defended really well. But I’m disappointed with the last goal Sundowns scored. I mean that is a really standard situation and we should have taken care of it. But we had some good moments and broke out well.
“We had to play a certain way because we don’t have players. We are really struggling with numbers.”
With the PSL transfer window set to be shut later this month, Hunt said they will need to add a few players in.
“We will keep on battling away, but hopefully we can get bodies in before the window closes,” he said.
