Johnson Makes Bold Chiefs Claim

After Stuart Baxter’s exit from Kaizer Chiefs, Cavin Johnson has made a bold claim about the coaching position.

The former Platinum Stars, SuperSport United and AmaZulu coach is currently unattached, having left Ahly at the end of last season.

Johnson has been a regular guest on Front Runner’s Monday Night Football on YouTube and on Monday night’s show hosted by Kamza Mbatha, he was a guest alongside former player Calvin Sosibo and iDiski Times journalist Rob Delport. On previous shows Johnson had refrained from commenting on the Chiefs role, because Baxter was still employed.

However on Monday, in response to Sosibo’s suggestion that Johnson could be the ideal candidate for the Chiefs’ post, Johnson said he believed he could build a team at Naturena.

“Calvin, I’m honoured, my son. I’m honoured,” Johnson responded on Monday Night Football.

“Kamza, last week I said I won’t talk about it, because the man has still got his job and it’s coaching ethics.

“But now that it’s out in the public, yeah, the people have been talking, I’m honoured. I’m really, really honoured and I think Kaizer Chiefs, yes we can go there, and we can build a team.

“I believe you can build a team, but you have to have the people around you that’s prepared to build a team quickly.

“There’s a quick fix, and like Rob has said, there’s a quick fix that can happen soon, but inside of that, there has to be a path as well.

Johnson insisted Chiefs need to look for a coach who will move the club forward and make them reach their full potential.

“This is what they need is to get someone to be able to intertwine with what they have now and make sure that they go forward positively,” he added.

“Because Chiefs cannot take a back step. like Rob said, a Stellies or an AmaZulu, they can’t take that step. For them to take that step back, it’s a non negotiable, they can’t take that step back, they can only go forward.

“They cannot take a step back because they are, and I say this in all respect, they are the biggest club in the SADEC region, and they have to respect that. It’s time they have to respect that, themselves.”
