Mpisane Scores In KZN Premier’s Cup

Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane scored in his side’s penalty-shootout win in the KZN Premier’s Cup to set up a semi-final with AmaZulu.

In the second quarter-final fixture of the day, Royal AM and Milford FC were unable to be separated as the match headed for the spot-kicks after a dull 0-0 draw.

However, there was a major talking point as Royal AM chairman came off the bench in the second half and he converted his penalty in the shootout to help Twihli Twahla advance 4-3 via spot-kicks.

In the earlier kick off, defending champions AmaZulu took a huge leap towards defending their crown following a hard-fought 2-1 win over rivals Golden Arrows at the Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium in Ulundi.

Usuthu got onto the scoresheet in the third minute after Arrows failed to deal with Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s long ball, leading to an own goal.

Lungelo Nguse leveled matters for Abafana Bes’thende in the 23rd minute with a ball over the top to beat Veli Mothwa.

With the game heading for a dreaded penalty shootout, Tshepang Moremi netted a late winner after beating Sifiso Mlungwana at the near post in the 91st minute, to proceed to the next round.

Pablo Franco Martín’s charges will be wary of Royal AM who would want to avenge their defeat from last season when the latter lost in penalties at the quarter-final stage.

The two sides will battle tomorrow’s second semi-final at 11:30am.
