Despite their heavy Carling Knockout Cup defeat at the hands of Cape Town City, Royal AM head coach John Maduka was full of praise for Andile Mpisane’s contribution to the team.
Thwihli Thwahla suffered a 3-0 first round exit at Athlone Stadium to a dominant City side to further inflict what has been a difficult period for the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit.
Club chairman Mpisane has so far featured in all of Royal AM’s matches this campaign though his fitness level has been questioned at times, with head coach John Maduka explaining that the midfielder shows his effectiveness in the team when given a chance to play and has helped them a lot in their ball retention.
Maduka added that they needed to manage him well and make it a point that they give him minutes to improve going forward because the chairman is a good footballer with good string of passes in the middle and doesn’t give much of the ball away.
“We try to give him some more minutes to play; if you see that maybe he’s getting tired, that’s when you have to take him out,” Maduka told iDiski Times after the match.

“He’s one player that can be able to pass the ball. I think if you take a look, yes, he might not touch the ball so many times, but the time that he made passes, you didn’t see him losing many of the balls.
“He maybe not too good when it comes to defending but you find that he’s not a player that just loses the ball anyhow.
“He can play short passes; he can be able to play anyhow which does help the team somewhere somehow.”
“He can play short passes, he can be able also to play long passes which does help the team somewhere somehow, trying to release the full backs going forward.”
