Royal AM head coach John Maduka admits it’s a bitter blow to have lost Tebogo Potsane to Kaizer Chiefs before the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
Potsane was a surprise signing by Chiefs as their seventh recruit ahead of the new season as it appeared he would sign a new deal at the KZN outfit.
But they failed to activate their option before their deadline and despite Potsane stating he’d be open to a new three-year deal, Chiefs swooped in to sign him as a free agent.
“I think that one should be directed to management, as a coach, of course, we wanted Potsane in our team [this season],” Maduka responded to iDiski Times over what happened around the Potsane saga.
“The team what they needed to do to keep Potsane in the team but you must remember there’s always a team [each player] wants to play for and sometimes it’s good to allow a player to go where he’s going to be happy.
“It doesn’t mean he wasn’t happy with us but what he told us, it’s his dream to play for Kaizer Chiefs so I have to wish him all the best.”
The Bloemfontein Celtic legend went on to state the winger will be a huge miss for Thwili Thwala this season as they are unable to register players the the current FIFA transfer ban.
“Of course, we will miss him, he was an influential member of our team, he played almost every game, whenever he played he made a huge difference, we’ll miss him but an opportunity for other players and youngsters we have to take over from him.”
