Cassius Mailula has returned to South Africa on compassionate leave after the untimely passing of his brother, Belgian club K.V. Kortrijk confirmed.
Mailula, 24, joined the club on loan at the start of the new season from Major League Soccer outfit Toronto FC, following a successful loan spell in Morocco with Wydad Athletic Club.

However, things have not gone as planned at the Challenger Pro side who are chasing promotion to the top-flight after arriving without a pre-season, he was in a race against time to catch up to the phsyical levels of the rest of the squad.
After featuring in 148 minutes of football, Mailula, who lost his mother last year, was dealt tragic news of another loss in his family and has since returned to South Africa.
“During this particularly difficult time, Cassius has returned to South Africa to mourn with his family. He will therefore be absent from training and matches for the time being,” the club statement read.
“Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones. The entire club sympathises deeply with them and wishes them strength, comfort, and solidarity. We ask that you respect his privacy and that of his family.”
