Dan Malesela looks set to part ways with Royal AM amid speculation over a potential return to Marumo Gallants, iDiski Times has learnt.
Malesela was relieved of his duties at Gallants despite leading them to the CAF Confederation Cup by virtue of leading them to the Nedbank Cup final, where they lost out to treble-winners Mamelodi Sundowns.
While he was lauded for the incredible turnaround after assuming the role at the time of languishing at the bottom of the DStv Premiership, his style of play and losing only six of the 25 games across all competitions touted him for potentially a bigger move.
But what transpired was inexplicable as Gallants allowed him to leave upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season and Malesela admitted he was under the impression terms would have been renewed after found out about his eventual exit via the media.
The 57-year-old was eventually roped in by Royal AM, as part of a coaching trio alongside Khabo Zondo and Abram ‘Wire’ Nteo – and despite a decent start to the season, this website has been informed Malesela has not been completely happy with the current set-up.
Sources close to Gallants confirmed to this website that they were seeking to lure him back to the club amidst the situation where Frenchman Romain Folz looks set to be replaced and while there’s been no official confirmation of his exit, talks have been brewing behind the scenes about who will succeed him.
This website understands Malesela left the Royal AM camp today stating he had an emergency to attend to and it’s now understood he later signalled his desire to leave the club.
Whether his potential resignation will be accepted is unclear at this point but the source at Thwihli Thwahla confirmed he is not in camp and looks ‘unlikely’ to return.
Malesela’s previous stints in the top-flight saw him at the helm of Chippa United and TS Galaxy before his move to Gallants in November 2021.
