Mariko Breaks Silence On Pirates Move

New Orlando Pirates signing Abdoulaye Mariko says he felt a sense of great pride and emotion after making his debut for the Buccaneers.

Mariko was snapped up during the off-season, signing from Malian giants Djoliba FC as one of coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s new arrivals.

The 22-year-old introduced himself to the club’s fans in front of a packed-to-rafter Orlando Stadium coming on in the 70th minute for Sipho Mbule and did not disappoint as they dispatched Polokwane City 2-0 to reach the MTN8 semis.

Mariko described taking to the field in front of a huge South African audience as being clued up on what it means to wear the Pirates brand.

“Wearing the Pirates jersey for the first time felt like a dream come true,” he told the club’s official website.

“I knew I was representing a club with great history, pride, and passionate supporters – I felt a deep responsibility to give my best.”

“Playing for Orlando Pirates is more than just football, it’s about representing a legacy.

“It means discipline, honour, and a commitment to excellence. I feel blessed to be part of such a prestigious club.”

He also took time to acknowledge the Bucs faithful for the rousing welcome they gave him on his debut.

“To the fans, I want to say thank you for the warm welcome and your support,” he added.

“You can expect me to always give 100%, with passion and commitment in every match. I will work hard to make you proud and help the team achieve its goals.”
