AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco Martin is baffled that everyone has been too focused on the club not scoring goals but people are not paying attention that they were not losing games either.
Usuthu won their first game in the fifth attempt under the Spanish coach when they beat TS Galaxy 1-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.
Augustine Kwem tucked home the decisive goal in the 65th minute after coming from the bench against his former club to see Usuthu be up and running.
Despite the win, Usuthu remained 14th on the DStv Premiership table with six points after five matches ahead of fellow provincial rivals Richards Bay in 15th and bottom side Cape Town Spurs, who have lost all their matches thus far.
“We are getting four clean sheets out of five games and I don’t think many teams can say that,” said Cijimpi after the game.
“And that we are finally scoring, finally converting and now we need to keep insisting on that and be more accurate and convert more and more chances.
“I hope the morale is getting high and I want to be ready after the next matches. We are going to have enough time to prepare for that.”
Many other coaches would want to play the next match after they won their first game to build and grow the confidence, unlike after they have suffered a defeat, but Martin is different.
He said the MTN8 semi-final break which will be followed by the FIFA break comes at the right time for his side, adding he was desperate to play against Galaxy after they had lost their previous match to Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend.
“I prefer to play quick or early after a defeat,” he said.
“After the Chiefs game I said to the guys, ‘we have another opportunity to play in three days’. And when you are coming from a tough defeat, the best thing is you are playing as soon as possible.
“Now we are getting this confidence back or it is getting higher, we don’t need to stop, we need to get this confidence growing.”
Usuthu’s next match will be against bottom side Cape Town Spurs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 17 September.
