Dr. Xanti Pupuma, the chairman and interim head coach of Milford FC, is a gynaecologist by profession and has explained how he balances his work and coaching.

Milford has punched above their weight in the Nedbank Cup after reaching the semi-final for the very first time in the club’s history.

The KwaZulu-Natal-based side is facing a tough schedule as they also sitting top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The next four games for Milford FC might decide their season as they will face second placed Kruger United, relegation threatened Baroka FC, title contenders Casric Stars and the Nedbank Cup semifinal against TS Galaxy.

Pupuma is not exactly looking at the Nedbank Cup, but focus is more on gaining promotion to the Betway Premiership as he says they haven’t achieved anything yet as the club.

“Especially because we’re playing a home game on a Wednesday after that, so it’s a bit of a stretch, but we don’t mind. Johannesburg is not that far. I’m hoping they’re going to play in Pretoria,” Pupuma told the media in Cape Town.

“So it’s not really a strength for us, coming from Richards Bay, and it’s just a one hour flight, and then we’re back in so put that as an effective but also when I have to find a way or now we address the semifinal and the end the game on Wednesday, hopefully everybody will be healthy, and then we can get to use whoever that we wish to use for any particular game.

“I think we haven’t achieved anything if we haven’t gained promotion to PSL. The aim is always to get to PSL. Nedbank is just a bonus. Obviously, it’s good for them.

“There’s more exposure with Nedbank, I find that, so they get to enjoy the attention. But I think everybody knows that the focus is trying to get promoted whichever way they win the league, or through the pairs, but we need to move up. So, if we can achieve that for us, that would be the biggest achievement, not even winning Nedbank Cup would regard as a biggest achievement.

“I mean, it would be a nice push from purse the past point of view, but overall, for what we want, we don’t want to win Nedbank Cup and still play in MFC.”
