Milford FC opened the gap at the top by two points after beating Leruma United, while Durban City and Upington City dropped points in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this weekend.
MFC round eight of matches started in Eastern Cape between newcomers Highbury FC and JDR Stars. The Yellow Nation shocked Stars with a 1-0 win with Gospel singer Mzoxolo Rafani scoring the only goal of the match for Highbury’s first win of the season.

In the capital city, Pretoria Callies narrowly beat Baroka FC 1-0 and had a sigh of relief as they moved to 10th place with nine points after eight matches. Bakgakga dropped out of the top eight even though they have the same number of points as Callies.
Milford bounced back to winning ways and hammered Leruma United 3-0. Nqaba Xulu scored a brace in the first half, and Siyabonga Nzama sealed the win in the 70th minute as Mandla Qhogi’s side remain top of the league table and two points clear.
Black Leopards managed a massive win over second-placed Durban City FC. Namibian international Bethuel Muzeu opened the scoring and Thabang Mabena made it 2-0 just before halftime. City pulled one back right in stoppage time in the first half through Lemohang Maseko. Lidoda Duvha moved to fourth place with 14 points, three points behind Milford.
It was a weekend of underdogs, with Venda Football Club shocking Casric Stars at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Judas Moseamedi proved why he is one of the best strikers in the league after he scored deep in the second half to make it 3-2. Stars cried foul after the game, stating that two Venda goals looked offside.
Upington City dropped points for a second consecutive match after a 2-1 loss to Orbit College, with Siyabulela Mabele and Simphiwe Ndlovu scoring the two goals for Orbit. Bokang Mokwana scored the consolation goal for Bafana Ba Gucci.
Up in Pretoria, AmaTuks welcomed Hungry Lions with the Tshwane-based side taking the lead in the 22nd minute after Samuel Julies converted from the penalty spot. Muzomukuhle Khanyi scored a brace to put Lions in front before the halftime break. AmaTuks then scored two goals in the second half to seal all three points.
Kruger United narrowly beat struggling Cape Town Spurs 1-0 with Thabo Nkwana recording his name on the scoresheet. The Urban Warriors dropped points for the third consecutive game.
