Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has given an injury update on Rivaldo Coetzee and Erwin Saavedra, and whether or not they are likely to feature again this season.
Both players have been notable absentees from the Sundowns teams of late, with Coetzee last featuring on the 2nd of March, and needing surgery after a hernia injury.
New Bolivian signing Saavedra, who has only featured in three games in all competitions, has also been out injured, last featuring back in February.
Mngqithi said that is unlikely that Coetzee will feature this season, and they have no intention of rushing him back.
“Coetzee, I am not too sure that we’ll be able to see him this season,” Mngqithi said after their win over Golden Arrows.
“If it happens, we will all appreciate, because we would not want to rush. I was asking almost the same question from our doctors yesterday about Coetzee, but the answers that I got were sufficient to make me say let’s do the right thing and not hope to have him very soon. If it does happen, we’ll appreciate.”
But there is better news on the Saavedra front, and the coach said he could have gone with Sundowns to Angola, but they decided to not risk it, however he should be available after their game against Petro De Luanda.
“But as for Saavedra, we are going to see him, we will definitely see him. It was a close call for this Angola game,” he added.
“He could have easily travelled with the team to Angola, but we felt we don’t have to rush, but we believe when we come back, he might be in a better space to help us.”
