Mokotjo – Why I Joined CT City

Newly signed Cape Town City midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo reveals that the club’s style of was the deciding factor in him signing for them after leaving Sekhukhune United.

Mokotjo, 33, returned to the country of his birth after spending 14 years plying his trade overseas for the likes of Feyenoord, Excelsior, PEC Zwolle, Twente FC, Brentford and Cincinnati. In 2023, he signed for Babina Noko and played an integral part as the club finished in fourth position.

The former SuperSport United youth academy has compared City’s style of play with European teams, and briefly explained what people should expect from him ahead of the 2024/25 season.

“I think me signing for City is something that I’m looking forward to so I’m really happy, very honoured to be here,” Mokotjo told CT City media.

“I manifested it years ago when I came back to the country from Europe. The playing style of Cape Town City impresses me a lot so, all I care about is winning and making sure I get the best out of myself so people can enjoy my football.

“There are a lot of similarities actually between European teams and Cape Town City, they play very structured football. I’m the kind of player that fans expect to be calm player, understands who is makes it easy for other players on the pitch, you could say a conductor or a general.”

Last season, Mokotjo featured 36 times for Sekhukhune in all competitions providing two assists in the process.
