Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has responded to rumours linking Khuliso Mudau with a move to Premier League side Burnley.
Mudau, 28, is the reigning PSL Defender of the Season and arguably one of the most consistent players in the DStv Premiership and for Bafana Bafana at present.
He’s won three league titles, the MTN8, Nedbank Cup and African Football League since his arrival at the club from Black Leopards and there’s been talk of a move to Europe in recent weeks.
Recent reports suggest Premier League side Burnely have expressed interest, the current club of his Bafana Bafana teammate, Lyle Foster.
“It’s a very difficult question you ask me because the ‘Sundowns coach’ [in me] is saying ‘Sailor is going nowhere’,” Mokwena said after Sundowns’ 2-0 win over SuperSport United on Wednesday.
“Because the Sundowns coach is selfish, we need our best players. And we are not a selling club and that’s very clear.
“But the human being that understands that life is about growth and there is targets… It’s the same way I’ve dealt with the Cassius situation.
“As difficult as it was for us to let go of Cassius, but when there are big opportunities and there’s possibilities for growth and it makes sense for all parties involved – Sundowns included, then…
“But I can’t entertain it at the moment because it’s just talk, there is nothing on the table at the moment.
“He’s an unbelievable, unbelievable football player and he’s an incredible human being. Such a kind-hearted soul and a very important part of our team – a very important part!
“So it’s difficult to entertain those type of talks because it’s just talks, there is nothing concrete.
“If I answer it purely as Sundowns coach, I’d say ‘hands off’. It’s very difficult. It’s the same if you go to Man City and ask for Kyle Walker, it’s very difficult.”
