Mokwena – We Will Be Back To Our Best

While they may have dropped points for the first time this DStv Premiership season, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has warned that his team will be back to their best soon.

Sundowns drew 0-0 with Cape Town City on Christmas Eve, to end their 100% winning record in the league.

It has been an incredibly taxing first half of the campaign for Mokwena’s team, and the match against City was Sundowns’ 29th competitive game since August, and they will have played 31 by the end of the next weekend.

Mokwena said he could not be prouder of his squad, and said Sunday’s draw was just ‘a pause in the process’.

“No, we want to win, and we play to win and we want to win every single game,” Mokwena said.

“That’s the process. This game is just a pause in that process. Just pause a little bit and then we will continue.

“We will be back to our best, it’s not easy to do what this group of players is doing.

“To travel the way we are travelling, to play the number of games, the number of injuries, people say it’s excuses, but it’s not excuses, it’s fact, you know.

“I would like to see how many teams would get the results that we’ve gotten, with the circumstances that we’ve had to overcome.

“How many teams? Very, very few would be able to do that.

“And so that’s why I say that group of players deserves a lot more credit than they get – incredible group of players and I can’t stop singing their praises.”
