SA tactician Rulani Mokwena masterminded yet another win as 10-man MC Alger beat log leaders MC Oran 3-2 to move top of the Algerian Ligue 1 table.
It’s been a dream start to life for the former Wydad Athletic Club and Mamelodi Sundowns mentor at the Algerian champions having collected seven points from three matches as they now sit top of the league standings.
Alger came into the game with their tails up afte their massive win away from home against Olympique Akbou as Mokwena’s side opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Zakaria Naidji but Botswana international Gape Mohutsiwe equalized for Oran in the 33rd minute.
Five minutes later, Soufiane Bayazid restored the lead for MC Alger making it 2-1. Just before the half time whistle, MC Alger were reduced to 10 men after Larbi Tabti received his matching orders as the defending champions had another 45 minutes to play with a man short.
With 21 minutes remaining, Moulay Abdelkader netted the equalizer for Oran to make it 2-2 and when it seemed like the tie would end in a stalemate, Yacine Hamadouche scored what was the winner for MC Alger in the 93rd minute as Mokwena’s side moved top of the Ligue1 with a game in hand.
MC Alger will now shift their focus to the CAF Champions League as they will take on Liberian side FC Fassell in the preliminary round.
