Judas Moseamedi says dropping down a division to play in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with Maritzburg United is not about proving to people how good he was.
The 30-year-old Moseamedi was left as a free agent after leaving Marumo Gallants, who were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship last term.
He then joined Tunisian side El Gawafel Sportives de Gafsa, who won the Ligue 2 to be promoted to the top flight in Tunisia last season, but only stayed for around two months.
Before the turn of the year, the former Cape Town City striker joined Maritzburg United and he was part of Simo Dladla’s side that beat Paarl United 3-0 in the first round of the Nedbank Cup at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday.
“I think I need to take one game at a time and if I want to prove a point to anyone, I will end up making mistakes that may cost the team,” Moseamedia told iDiski Times.
“I think the main thing for me is to help the team, climb up the table and that is the main objective.”
Moseamedi, who was also on the radar of the delayed Olympic Games in Tokyo for the U23s in 2021, has explained his drop in the last years.
“I feel like not playing a lot of football in the past two years in the topflight is the reason for where I am now,” he added.
“I think it is just a learning curve. I must pick up myself and grab that confidence, try to help the team and come next season, and let’s see where we will be.”
Moseamedi, who is also known as the ‘Chiefs slayer’ experienced a purple of form in the 2019/20 season in his first stint with the Team of Choice, scoring twice against Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout semi-final at Mbombela Stadium to guide Eric Tinkler’s side to the final.
However, they lost to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Moseamedi had stunned the Tshwane giants in that final, opening the scoring in the 39th minute to give hope to Maritzburg to win their maiden cup in the PSL era. But towering striker Mauricio Affonso scored twice to help Pitso Mosimane’s side win the league cup.
While he lost TKO against Sundowns, he had won the same competition with Cape Town City in the 2016/17 season when the club was just 144 days old, scoring the winner in the final against SuperSport United in the 73rd minute at Peter Mokaba Stadium under Tinkler.
Moseamedi has a chance to shine and remind others of his qualities in the Ke Yona Cup since the Team of Choice reached the Round of 16, with the draw set to take place from 18:00 on Monday.
