Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has promised his next Soweto Derby will have goals and explained why he opted to field Mduduzi Shabalala.
Nabi’s first taste of the Derby ended in a 1-0 defeat as Patrick Maswanganyi netted a penalty with the last kick of the game in the 96th minute.
It was a hard pill to swallow for Amakhosi who had put up a valiant effort against the Soweto rivals in a sold-out Calabash on Saturday.
“Uh I feel like the derby was good, what was missing today was goals, but I thought we were very good and we promise next time there will be more goals,” Nabi said.
Shabalala was noticeably strapped heavily during the game and was fielded for an hour before making way for Glody Lillepo’s debut for the club.
“About Shabalala – he’s coming from an injury and we didn’t really have…. uh he’s been our best player so far,” Nabi explained.
“When you play a derby you want your best players to be on the field, even if they are not 100% – we felt he could give us something for 60-70 minutes.
“But when we noticed that he’s fatigue was starting, we decided to sub him off.”
