Orlando Pirates Nedbank Cup trophy hero Terrence Dzvukamanja says he was focussed on his job at the Buccaneers instead of worrying where he will be playing next season.
The Zimbabwe international almost left Pirates in the January transfer window to SuperSport United due to the lack of game-time in the first half of the campaign, as coach Gavin Hunt was pushing to be reunited with his former striker.
Instead, Dzvukamanja stayed on at the Parktown club. But it was not an easy journey as he was booed by Pirates fans at Orlando Stadium against Golden Arrows when coach Jose Riveiro was introduced him.
But he soon silenced his doubters, diving in to score a header to net what was his first goal this season on 14 January after having not scored at all in the first round.
And he was the hero again in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, flying in the air to steer into the back of the net after a perfect cross from Monnapule Saleng to win the cup in stoppage time in dramatic fashion at Loftus Stadium.
However, Dzvukamanja will see his contract with Pirates expire next month, having joined them on a three-year deal ahead of the 2020/21 season from Bidvest Wits.
“That one I don’t think I have a say to say and maybe if you can contact my agent and I think he can explain a little better than me because I was focusing on my job here,” said Dzvukamanja when asked by iDiski Times after the game if he will be at Pirates next season.
“I still have a contract here.”
In all, Dzvukamanja scored eight goals in 19 matches in all competitions this season, as Pirates also finished second on the DStv Premiership table to qualify for the CAF Champions League.
When asked if he had made it difficult to Pirates that they will haul him in the office and sign a contract extension, Dzvukamanja was left smiling.
“I don’t know,” said Dzvukamanja.
“If they come, they will come. As I have said, that is from my agent to say ‘Terry, this is what is on the table’ and if it is something good or not good, I will take it from there.”
But Dzvukamanja made it clear that he wants to stay at Pirates.
“Every player wants to play for a big team and there is also CAF Champions League [for Pirates next season] and everyone wishes to play for this team.”
