Ngcobo To Return To Chiefs XI?

Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo could make his return to Arthur Zwane’s starting XI for the first time since his outburst against Golden Arrows.

The reigning DStv Premiership Defender of the Season has not featured in the last four four matches for Amakhosi since his outburst after being substituted against Arrows.

However, the club and the player long put the incident behind them and Ngcobo returned to the bench against Marumo Gallants, only to drop out of the squad against Mamelodi Sundowns again due to a small injury.

He returned once more in the 1-0 win over Sekhkhune but remained an unused substitute, however, he could feature in Chiefs’ final game against his former club Swallows, because the club is experiencing somewhat of an injury crisis.

“It will be an opportunity for other players to get a chance, Njabulo Ngcobo, Austin Dube and many other players that can play in that position,” interim coach Arthur Zwane said in his pre-match press conference.

Ngcobo himself is expecting a tough game against his former club, who are fighting relegation.

“Swallows have been good for me, they’ve done everything they could for me to enjoy being in the topflight,” he told Chiefs’ media department.

“It’s a tough game. They want three points, but we also want to keep the momentum we’ve been generating. We want to win games.

“It’s going to be a good game, even though it won’t be easy for us.”

Despite his history with the Dube Birds, Ngcobo insisted that he will put all sentiment aside and only focus on his current team, revealing he hopes they can still qualify for a CAF competition.

“I won’t focus on other teams, but for us so far so good, we have done everything right this week,” he added.

“We need three points again, so that when we come back next season, we can have a good start because if you finish well you feel the same way entering another season.

“I just hope we get maximum points and play good football as we have been doing. Other teams have their plans, but we need to focus on ours.

“If we can win this game, there might be a chance for us to play in CAF competition, so I hope so.”

Chiefs will take on Swallows at the FNB Stadium on Saturday at 15:00 and fans can buy their tickets at TicketMaster, Shoprite, Checkers or by following this link.
