Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has revealed that goalkeeper Brandon Petersen was left out of the match-day squad to face SuperSport United because of rotational purposes.
Ntseki started veteran keeper Itumeleng Khune, who conceded the sole goal in the 1-0 defeat at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, while going with Bruce Bvuma on the bench.
Petersen had played six league matches, where had received the highest Sofascore rating among all players in the league up until the international break, and the two in the MTN 8.
However, on Wednesday he wasn’t even in the squad, with Ntseki saying he felt the need to give his club captain a shot because all his keepers are looking good.
“No we are doing more of rotation because I think the goalkeeping department has done very well and all the goalkeepers are in good shape,” he said when asked by iDiski Times.
“And we felt that we needed to give Itu a run today with Bruce on the bench.
“Going forward we will always give our goalkeepers a chance to play because I think Itu had a good game.
“So we can’t be looking into the absence of another player, when there was a player on the pitch and who did very well.”
The result in Limpopo’s capital saw Chiefs drop to eighth position on the log, tied on eight points with TS Galaxy and Royal AM in ninth and 10th spots, respectively.
However, fans were not pleased after the third defeat of the DStv Premiership campaign and pelted objects at the Chiefs coach, while some were chanting “Ntseki must go” as he was heading towards the tunnel.
The Soweto side has a chance to redeem themselves in the MTN 8 semi-final second leg against Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria on Saturday.
