Ofori Breaks Silence On Horrific Mako Clash

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori has broken his silence on his emotions after his horror clash with Paseka Mako, which left his teammate unconscious initially.

The horrific accident happened a few weeks ago when Pirates played a goalless draw with Baroka and the goalkeeper clashed into his teammate as both were trying to clear a ball.

The collision saw Mako leaving the pitch in an ambulance, but things even looked worse in the first moment when several Pirates’ players were seen crying.

Ofori has now for a first time spoken about the emotions he went through, revealing how scared and shocked he was when he first saw Mako on the floor covered in blood.

“First of all I would say thank God for the protection that very day because I saw something that I don’t want to even talk about because it was so bad when I turned and looked at my brother and my brother was lying down,” he told Maskepe Matsebane on PowerFM Sports Extra.

“It wasn’t easy for me but I thank God that he gave me that strength to come back strong.

“Even that night I couldn’t sleep, the whole the morning it was so tough for me because when I thought of the incident and the blood I saw that day it was so bad. I thank God that he gave me that strength to move on.”

Ofori also revealed how he went to hospital and even spent the whole night with his teammate after the horrific incident.

“I went to check him at the hospital, the doctor assured me that he is better. Even that very night they took him to hospital, the next day they brought him to Joburg, I went to the hospital the whole night to be with my brother.

“He finished his operation, I was there I asked the doctor if everything was okay the doctor said ‘Yeah, everything was fine’ before I started to get that relief because sometimes in this game small things can take you back, so to come back again it’s difficult so I know how it feels,” he added

“I was feeling bad for my brother but I thanked God that he is healing now and everything is going well. Even today he came to the training, I was very happy to see him and I’m very happy that everything is fine and he is getting well.”

A few days ago, Orlando Pirates confirmed that 28-year-old Mako is out of hospital and recovering well, but he won’t be available for the remainder of the season.
