Orlando Pirates host Chippa United in the DStv Premiership this evening and the clubs have announced who will be in their starting line-ups for the encounter.
Pirates will go into the game on a high after securing a semi-final spot in the CAF Confederation Cup this past weekend, and the fifth-placed side will be pushing to finish in the top three to secure continental football next season.
They’re in a battle with Royal AM, Cape Town City, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch, who are also still in the chase for second and third place.
As things stand, second and third would secure continental football, with the second-placed team qualifying for the CAF Champions League.
While technically third-place will qualify for the Confederation Cup, that could also fall away, were Pirates to win the CAFCC this season, as they would then qualify as defending champions alongside the team who qualifies via the Nedbank Cup.
Meanwhile, for Chippa, who are currently 12th, a victory would possibly take them out of the relegation battle. They’re currently on 25 points, six points behind 11th-placed Marumo Gallants, while there is a seven-point difference between themselves and bottom-placed Baroka.
A win for Kurt Lentjies’ team would not only see them close that gap on Gallants, but it would also open a gap on those behind them. Maritzburg United are currently one point behind in 13th place.
