Former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has been linked with two potential new jobs, as reported in this week’s iDiski Times’ newspaper.
According to iDiski Times sources, while there has been no contact yet, the current CAF Champions League holders, Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca have shown interest in the three-time CAF Champions League winner, but it is believed that the South African’s demands may be out of reach for Wydad.Â
Walid Regragui was leading Wydad to the CAF Champions League title in 2021/22, beating Mosimane’s Al Ahly in the final, but there are rumours he could vacate his position.Â
The news of Regragui leaving come somewhat as a surprise after he has already secured the double, leading Wydad to the Botola Pro title and could also still lift the Moroccan Cup as well.
Meanwhile, Mosimane is reportedly also wanted in Iraq, with the Iraqi Football Association looking to find the ideal person to lead their national team.Â
According to Iraq media, the Iraq FA have earmarked three coaches that might take over the job of coaching the national team and former Mamelodi Sundowns coach is amongst the three.
The other two coaches are former Cameroon coach Antonio Conceicao after the Portuguese recently parted ways with the Indomitable Lions. He failed to win 2021 African Cup Of Nations on home soil but was sacked shortly after by ambitious FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o.Â
The other reported candidate is former France defender Bernard Casoni, who has had a few coaching stints in Africa, leading the likes of MC Alger, MC Oran and most recently MC Oujda.
Of the three candidates, Mosimane has lifted the most silverware, including two CAF Champions League titles and two CAF Super Cups, as well as four Premier Soccer League titles, among others.
