Pitso Names Squad For CAFCL Clash, Duo Ruled Out

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has named his squad for the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg against ES Setif, but two of his most important players have been ruled out.

The South African tactician will attempt to lead Al Ahly into their third successive CAF Champions League final.

Al Ahly face ES Setif in the semi-final after the Algerian side somewhat surprisingly knocked Esperance Tunis out in the previous round.

Setif finish second in AmaZulu’s group, which was topped by Raja Casablanca, who were since eliminated by Mosimane’s side in the quarter-final.

However, Mosimane will have to do without Amr El-Sulya and Mohamed Abdelmonem, who have been ruled out of the first leg, with El-Sulya suffering a hamstring strain and Abdelmonem an adductor muscle strain, according to Kingfut.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana winger Percy Tau has made the squad and will hope to reach his second CAF Champions League final after winning the trophy with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016.

Below is Al Ahly’s 21-man squad:

Goalkeepers: Mohamed El Shenawy, Ali Lotfy, Mostafa Shobeir

Defenders: Mohamed Hany, Karim Fouad, Ali Maaloul, Mahmoud Wahid, Yasser Ibrahim, Ayman Ashraf, Mahmoud Metwally

Midfielders: Aliou Dieng, Hamdy Fathy, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Taher Mohamed Taher, Ahmed Abdelkader, Ahmed Nabil Koka, Walid Soliman

Forwards: Percy Tau, Luis Miquissone, Mohamed Sherif, Hussein El Shahat
