Pitso Sets Ambitions With New Club

Pitso Mosimane has revealed his ambitions for his new club Al Ahli Saudi FC, saying he wants to turn the team into champions even though he knows it’s a big task.

Mosimane, 58, was unveiled by the Saudi side in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving some surprised by his move in the second division.

The South African is arguably Africa’s most successful coach at the moment, having lifting 21 trophies, including three CAF Champions League titles.

It’s Mosimane’s first move outside of Africa, but being the ambitious coach he is known to be, he has set himself high targets with Al Ahli after they have been relegated for the first time in the club’s history.

“The plan was to only take on an interesting and challenging project that will enable us to impact and turn a team into champions,” Mosimane told BBC Sport Africa.

“We need to awaken the sleeping giant and bring the people back to fill the stadium. It’s a very big task but an exciting one, too.

“With a large fan base in Saudi and a cabinet filled with 28 trophies, the club is more than ready to make its way back into the Pro League to face their founding ‘big four’ rivals.

“We are ready to give our all to make it happen.”

Mosimane will not take on the journey to Jeddah on his own, as he will take his trusted technical team of Kyle Solomons, Musi Matlaba and Kabelo Rangoaga along with him.
