The Premier Soccer League have postponed Wednesday’s match between TS Galaxy and Mamelodi Sundowns after The Rockets were involved in a bus accident, which cost one person her life.
Galaxy’s team bus crashed with another car on their trip to Mbombela on Tuesday, and while no Galaxy player or staff member got injured, the driver of the other car sadly past away.
Initially, Galaxy continued their journey and also trained on Tuesday, but chairman Tim Sukazi had confirmed that that the club had requested a postponement of Wednesday’s fixture.
“The players (TS Galaxy) are fine physically but psychologically they are traumatised by almost being involved in a head on collision and seeing the driver who was in the other car pass on,” he said on Sports Night Amplified with Andile.
“You can see by looking into the eyes of our players and the technical team that they are all traumatised by what has happened in that accident today.
“We are supposed to be playing Sundowns tomorrow, given what has happened today, a postponement would be ideal, but we will be advised by the League.”
On Wednesday, the league has sent a communicee to both clubs, which was seen by iDiski Times, confirming the postponement of Wednesday’s DStv Premiership match.
A new date for the clash is yet to be announced.
UPDATE: The PSL have now also published an official statement on the postponement.
“The Premier Soccer League (PSL) hereby confirms the postponement of the DStv Premiership fixture between TS Galaxy FC and Mamelodi Sundowns scheduled for this evening, 06 March 2024, at Mbombela Stadium (19h30),” the PSL stated.
“The decision has been made in consideration of the extraordinary circumstances following an accident involving the TS Galaxy FC team bus and another motor vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.
