Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro mentioned the importance of winning the MTN8 quarter-final when they face Royal AM on Saturday.
It’s 10 days since these two sides faced each other in the DStv Premiership where the buccaneers came on top by 1-0 at Moses Mabhida stadium. But that won’t matter now as they facing each other in a different capacity in the knockout competition.
Riveiro and his team aim to end Pirates’ two-year drought as they last won a trophy in 2020 when they won the same competition, beating Bloemfontein Celtic by 2-1.
Many Thwihli Thwahla players were part of that group that lost to Pirates and a win against the Juju nation would be an act of sweet revenge. The Spanish mentioned the importance of beating the KZN outfit, saying they have a chance to increase the club’s history.
“When you are representing such a club like Pirates you know what it means, you know what people are waiting for and we gonna do our best one more time in this new tournament, in this new opportunity to increase the club history. Jose Riveiro told reporters.
“We know much more about Royal AM as they know much more about Pirates so those small leaders are gonna play on Saturday I am sure.
“Focusing on facts and the facts is that we have to beat Royal AM if we want to continue into the competition and want to dream about that possibility so let’s wait for the final if we have the right and we deserve to be there we have to do it on Saturday.”
